Facts and Questions - FAQ's

1. What exactly is Interactive Management in Centre for Interactive Management India (CIMI)?

Interactive Management (IM) is a discipline of systems sciences propounded by Prof. John Warfield, former director, Institute for Advanced Studies in Integrative Sciences (IASIS), George Mason University, USA. IM essentially provides methods for group idea generation and structuring for understanding complex problems in organizational and social situations. We adopt the IM approach along with other systems methodologies for understanding the complexity of any subject we are working on. Using IM gives us a competitive edge.

2. Is IM different from Moderation approach, which international development agencies such as German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC) commonly use in their projects?

No, IM is not very different from Moderation, as far as the underlying philosophy is concerned. Both the approaches emphasize participation of stakeholders, visual representation of ideas and consensus in arriving at an understanding of the key issues to be addressed. However, IM is different from Moderation with regard to the way it is applied.

3. Do you only specialize in Interactive Management?

No. We use interactive management, moderation and many other approaches as required by the situation we are dealing with.

4. So, what exactly are the services you provide?

So far, since inception we have worked in fields as diverse as Information Technology, HRD, Vocational Training, Education, Ecological Refrigeration, Gender Issues, and Employment Situation etc. We have provided services in the form of research, consultancy and teaching/ training in these areas..

5. Do you work only in Environment, Education, Training & Technology sectors as your Home Page describes?

We believe in diversity and flexibility of our services, since we are essentially knowledge workers. We have the capability to reorient our skill sets to any new sector or functional area. In fact, we feel challenged if asked to provide services in newer fields where we may not have worked so far.

6. Typically, what kind of clients you work for?

We have worked for (a) UN bodies like ILO and UNDP; (b) International Development Agencies like GTZ and SDC; (c) international consultancy organizations such as INFRAS Consulting Group, Zurich; and Springfield Centre for Business in Development, UK; and (d) Indian corporate sector organizations and research/academic institutes.

7. Can you give some examples of Indian corporate sector organizations and research/academic institutes you have worked for?

Amongst the corporate sector organizations, we have worked, for example, with Federal Mogul Automotive Ltd. and Godrej Industries Ltd. for conduct of attitudinal training and customer service training programmes respectively. We have also worked for Subhash Projects & Marketing Ltd., a well-known firm in infrastructure development. Amongst academic institutes, we have worked , for example, with Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy of Administration in developing case studies on gender issues; and with Institute of Applied Manpower Research in conducting diagnostic studies for Women Development Corporations in different states. Both of these engagements were on World Bank-assisted projects.

8. Do you work only in India as your name suggests?

On the contrary, we are a global service provider. We have worked on projects in China, Greece, Japan, Uganda and Ghana, amongst other countries, having traveled to these countries, as demanded by the respective clients.

9. Do you travel abroad extensively?

We may not be known as an Outsourcing Firm, but we are also comfortable providing off-site services through simply e-mail based service requests. There are some clients of ours whom we have never met in person, and they are very happy with our services. But, of course, we do travel abroad (and would love to!).

10. How many employees do you have in CIMI?

The number of employees ranges from one to infinity. We have the strength of all our networking resources behind us whenever the situation demands.
